Investigators said many of the animals were dead or starving. The animals included snakes, tortoises, gila monsters and frogs.

Authorities said the home was abandoned about four months ago after a foreclosure.

Joel Almquist of Forever Wild Exotic Animal Santuary took in about 200 snakes and lizards. He said one gila monster was among the 10 to 12 animals found dead at the house.

A second gila monster survived, but some animals had to be euthanized, Almquist said.

Tortoises and other animals were sheltered by animal control.

The owner of the home has not been located.

good grief!

someone here near me got busted for drugs or something and then had animal cruelty charges on them for thier snakes and things being in horrible condition-- another rescue group took them all in instead of me-

people are so stupid- but they got a bigger fine and jail sentence for the animal cruelty charges than the drug charges.... which is how i think it should be- but thats just me...

i keep saying this rescue stuff would be so much easier if it werent for the people- some dumb woman called today with a 3 yr old "baby" cornsnake--- and has been feeding it 1 pinky a month for 3 YEARS--- and now hates the thing b/c its mean and thinks all snakes should be banned..... i was like- bring it to me and i'll try not to yell at you...

god! i'm in such a horrible mood tonight b/c of that lady- (along with the call about 3 male iguanas that have ripped themselves to shreds- we've gone away from cock fighting- now we fight lizards.... UUUGGGGHHHH!!!

The penalty should not be fines and jail time but rather a professional football field goal kicker's kick with steel toed boot to the groin, whether the perpetrator is man or woman. How can they pay fines if they can't pay morgage? They can however graciously except a groin kick.
