Ashley is shedding???

danktat Feb 08, 2008 01:39 AM

Ok so here is the situation. Ashley (the FLR Suriname I purchased from Ash Lopez a short time ago) had been with his Damico male before he was forced to sell her. She shed about three weeks before the purchase and hasn't eaten since a little while before that shed. When she got in on around the the 22nd of January she was placed with a male that I got from John Brady for a few days. He courted her a couple of times but she was on top of him more than he was on top of her.
.

.
I took him out and replaced him on Jan 28th with Hercules who copulated within 24 hours of placing him with her. He has been courting pretty regularly since then as well.
.

.

.
The thing is now she is in shed. I haven't really witnessed any real swelling but then again I don't know this snake well enough to notice any subtle changes as she is quite thick to begin with. He was still showing interest yesterday.
.
Since she is blueing up I am separating him so he can get in a meal and then will reintroduce after this shed.
.
If this is a POS in theory, there could be three differend "daddys" to any litter produced. What are you all's thoughts on the possibility this is POS?

The possibility for three different daddy's is very real. Or two. Or maybe she's shedding due to the new environment and stress? It's also quite possible she had a preovulation swell at Ashley's place and it wasn't noticed.
My guess is that in the wild, they are courted by several males before finally ovulating and allowing copulation and it probably happens in less time than it takes us in captivity. So with the multiple males you may have simulated more closely a "real" breeding situation.
Best of luck. If she produces for you they'll be awesome babies regardless of who the father(s) are!
