Does this sound like a scam?

mandn Feb 08, 2008 10:53 AM

"Dear Seller
Am willing and interested in buying your snake, get back at me via my email if it is still available for sale. What are the conditions ??? send me recent pictures if available. What is your last offer?Im interested in making immediate payments to you with MONEY ORDER for the asking price of your snake.
"

Just wondering if looks familiar to anyone else. Sounds a little fishy to me.

some people might sound wierd cause well some of them are,,,,,,,,get the money order and if its all good and the money clears then send the animal......if not live and learn and send nothing

Ruben14 Feb 08, 2008 10:57 AM

Hell yeah! I got that one a couple of of times and called theem out on it!

kblumenthal Feb 08, 2008 11:05 AM

Yep, it's the notorious "Nigerian Scam"...I get that same email every few days. "What are the conditions", "what is your last offer", "immediate payments" (instead of just saying I will pay you with a money order), are all tipoffs. Don't bother wasting your time with these idiots.

how are they supposed to scam you though,,,,,,,,what are they looking to do......i dont understand their plan.......if they are gonna send a money order they cant imagine someone would send an animal before the money comes?......i saw someone on another site and it was about cars say in their post "and dont try one of those nigerian scams"...i guess its widespread whatever it is...makes me want to post something just to play with them

rainbowsrus Feb 08, 2008 11:41 AM

The MO is not real, might be a very good forgery but ultimately will not clear and the funds will be drawn back. Typically they send a little "extra" that you're supposed to refund.

im so tempted to post something to get some emails from them but then id also be getting ones from honest people looking to buy what ive posted.......id like to send them a special treat,,,

ilovemylizard Feb 08, 2008 01:06 PM

Dave is correct...the money order or cashiers check will be counterfiet...they are so well made even an actual bank won't know it's fake untill it bounces...the checks are said to have flawless watermarks and other security features..they will appear completely legitimate...

These morons will always have some story about why they need to give you $5,000 for an $800 dollar reptile...

If they want to pay you anything over your asking price, it is a scam...

They are hoping you will cash the check for them, send a large portion of the money to them through western union/moneygram, ect.....and when the check bounces, the Feds will come looking for YOU...and you are out all the money you wired the scammer as well...

well if it happens to anyone again ......go along with it and let me hand carry all that extra cash to them,,,,,,,trust me youll know who they are after that ......they'll be the ones limping with their eyes swollen shut

I got some when selling a $1000 car, one guy said he would send me $7000 money order, I send $3000 to a shipping company to send the car to the UK, and keep the rest. You cash MO, send $3000 western union (unsafe way to send money) to the scammer basically (false shipping company), then the money order bounces and you are out the $3000. MOs look legit so they are accepted and take time to bounce.

How do I find their IP address??

rainbowsrus Feb 08, 2008 12:57 PM

I'm using yahoo to access my sbcglobal.net email account and there is a button at the bottom of the email "Full headers", when clicked all kinds of info shows up besides the userid at the top of the email.

how does that work.......can you tell me where im writing from,,,,,,and i think it should be more well known on here and can be used as a red light for honest people on here to weed out and then share their info on the "bad guys"

There should be an option in your email program to "Show All Headers", or "Show Headers". Using this option will display the routing information for the email. It will show the IP address of the computer (or ISP) that the email originated from, and the computers (or routers) it had to pass through to finally get to your computer (or ISP). The IP address that you should lookup is the very first one listed.
As for forum postings, we (normal viewers/users) cannot tell what IP address you post from, but the forum Admins have the ability to lookup and find out that information.
Hopefully this helps,
