moderately fast way to dechlorinate

chelonian71 Feb 08, 2008 12:57 PM

There's aging for about 24 hr; Ken mentioned using some substance that turns the chlorine dissoved gas into NaCl(which I am assuming only takes a few minutes or so). But when I want dechlorinated water fast, I use hot tap water - if your water heater heats the water to a high enough temp, it forces the gases out of solution. Wait a few hours to cool, and it's ready to use

... relatively fast way to obtain dechlorinated water, because dechlorinating doesn't take place when running the faucet but before the water comes out when it's in the water heater....

Most city's water now is actually treated with the much more stable chloramine (NH2CL) not chlorine. Chloramine is not removed by bioling in water heater or by aging. It must be removed by a "dechlor" aquarium product.
