garters and hair

cochran Feb 08, 2008 07:58 PM

Is it o.k. to feed garters adult mice? I wasn't sure if hair is a problem or not.My black necked is eating(like a pitbull) rat pinkies at the moment. Thanks!, Jeff

My garters & water snakes eat f/t hopper mice, and have no problem with the hair.

Thanks Dan! What kind of water snakes do you keep? Do you have pics?I've been thinking about playing around with some northern waters and see how easy they are to switch to rodents. Take care!, Jeff

hehe, we have northern water snakes around here, beautiful snake, they are very common, I see them all the time in the summer especially when I am fishing, they climb in the jon boat with me, but man are they aggressive, they usually try to bite the livin "----" out of me. Maybe they arent so nippy when raised up in captivity though.

I have a nice 1.2 trio of 06 ch diamondback waters. It took alot of work, but they now eat unscented f/t mice every time offered. I've also kept banded waters, and found them to be super easy to switch over to rodents. A good friend of mine keeps browns & greens and cant get them to switch over to unscented, but they will take pink rats scented with smelt. If you want a real challenge Jeff, try one of those two.

I'll get some pics of the diamondbacks to you soon.
