Ribbon or Garter -- ID

rukind24 Aug 27, 2003 10:44 AM

Hi --

I purchased this beautiful little creature from my local pet store, and she (I call her a she, not sure though) is doing wonderfully! Handling is no problem, and she's eating, shed her first skin without a hitch (her first with me, anyway), all in all I think she digs it in her new home.
I'm not quite sure what type of snake she is though, venturing a guess that Ribbon would be accurate, but if anyone can shed some light on that it would be great!
Additionally, if you know, once identified, what length I can expect, life expectancy, and any other useful tips... it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Possibly a western (don't have my field guide on hand), but that pale blotch just before the eye is a dead giveaway to its species(I think)

It is some type of western ribbon. where are you located i saw one like that at a pet shop near me. I would keep it in a ten gallon aquarium with a secure lid. Feed it a varied diet of fish and if tooken a pinkies and mabe frogs (there loaded with parasites)
Hope it goea well

I'm in Manhattan, and got it at the local Petland to me. $3.95, can't beat that. Have it in a 10 gal. which seems perfect!
Appreciate the response!!
