The BANN

Conan247 Feb 09, 2008 08:46 AM

Let me start off by saying Iam breeding Ball pythons to obtain certain morphs I could not afford. So anything I make will be consider gravey. It will be worth it when I'm holding my super pastel or bee. Everyone keeps saying if this Ban goes threw the hobby will be crushed. If they quit importing balls to the U.S. will this not make the price on normals go up. I just wanted to get your guys thoughts on that. You would think that it would be great for the breeders if only they could get new morphs shipped in. Just trying to look at the good side if it was to go threw.
I am in no way for this thing. Just one more way for Uncle Sam to mess stuff up and take more of our freedoms.

I would still be against it, but it WOULD probably actually help breeders who produce normals, by eliminating competition from cheap imports.

Unfortunately, they also want to stop interstate transportation. That is the part that would make business difficult, if not impossible, for most breeders.

Stopping imports would not cause prices to go up. There is too much surplus as it is. Though some that are not selling will begin to.

The problem with the ban proposal is the outlaw of interstate trade. Which would probably transfer to no foreign exports.

There are many captive species that would be hurt by a ban on imports because of limited gene pools, but this isn't a concern for Ball Pythons.

It is a concern to the foreign economies that use the income generated by Ball Python exports. After all, they are going to sell to the next highest bidder to make ends meet, which I have a feeling may be the many Asian markets around the world. Like it or not, these imported animals are supporting many people both here and over the pond. If it stops, the term "disposable animals" has a new meaning, and its not all that well, good.

If you take 40,000 (guess) imported BP's out of the equation, their isn't going to much "surplus" by captive breeders!! It would most definately raise prices, but to what extent??

However, ban interstate shipping and it won't matter!! I'd think it will have the opposite effect, especially in places like Florida where you have 3 million (exaggerated guess)breeders and a limited customer base!!
