anybody use radiant heat panels?

BRB_Russ Feb 09, 2008 07:11 PM

Im very familiar with under the tank heat etc but i was wondering if anybody is using the radiant heat panels, I hear they are pretty damn good if they work how they are advertised.

I am asking because i got a new enclosure and im trying to figure out how to heat it.

thx

he loves them. He has them in his oak breeding cages and has pretty nice control over the temps. Besides Dave I think Jeff may have used them also at one time or another. Here's the link

I use Pro-Products radiant heat in all of my chondro cages. They are very nice. I'd be a little hesitant to use them in my BRB enclosures because the rainbows spend so much time on the ground. Dave uses them and gets away with it just fine because his compartments are a little smaller 18" vs. 24? I like the idae because it creates much more of a gradient on the cage rather than a warm spot / cold spot with floor heat. Wife's calling, gotta go. Maybe more later.

Yeah, I have several animals from Greg Maxwell. I have a sib to that insane black/blue/green snake. I forget if it mentions this but that snake also has ties to the albino. Greg is trying to prove her this year but it looks like it may have to wait till next year. My sib just turned out to be a male so right now, I'm onthe lookout for a female with lots of black to pair up with him.

I was looking at these ones from big apple herp because . . well they are cheaper!

Does anyone have any idea about what size i would need for a 4'x2.2'x1' enclosure? its going to be ~72* without heat.

big apple has 3 sizes. . 11x11 @ 24 watts 11x17 @ 40 watts and
23x 11 @ 54 watts . . . . .

Is 1' the height dimension? If so, and if you're planning on mounting the panel to, let's say, the upper right part of the cage, I'd go with the 11x17 plugged into a herpstat or helix.

Another reason I like the Pro-Products ones is because Bob Pound is such a great guy to talk to. He's very knowlegeable about which of his panels to use in which applications.

Other chondro folks have said that the big apple ones work well too.
