Mandarin Rat Snakes

Hey guys,

Any body got idea about mandarin rat snakes’ attitude? Are they normally agressive or handlable?

They are a little on the nervous side but are not aggressive in general. Even adults are rather active when held due to being somewhat high strung as many small asian rats from that area are. In my opinion mandarins as with many other asian rats do better if not handled too frequently. They are great snakes. Randy W.

wow beautyful snakes! How old/ big do females need to be to reproduce? So avioding all handling would be best?

Thanks. It's hard to give a certain size for them to breed at as some locals get bigger than others but somewhere in the 2.5 ft range or over for females as a minimum and at 2 and a half years of age or older. Males could breed at a smaller size and younger age. Some holding is fine but I would avoid holding more than needed.

Mine can be aggressive at times and handleable at times. I try to avoid too much handling though. Sometimes they don't like my presence in the snake room at all.
