I was just wondering where the best place to secure my digital thermometer would be? I have 20 gallon long for my 2 month beardie, and was just wondering exactly where to put probe so as to not overheat hot side? thanx!

probe should be placed directly on the basking spot, so you can determine the basking temp. It doesn't need to be permanently attached to the basking spot though. Just as long as its there long enough for the therometer to measure the temperature (most take 15-45 minutes till they are at the actual temperature of the location, should be in the directions that came with the thermometer how long it needs to be at a specific spot to measure temperature accurately).
A temperature gun is better for more instant measuring of surface temps.
A good way to allow for a temperature gradient within the basking area, is to have a wide sloping basking area so the dragon can choose what temperature he wants to bask at. Some will bask at higher temperatures (110-120F) for a short period of time to quickly bring up their core temps...most do this once they wake up and after eating, then they move to cooler areas to maintain a constant core temperature. Hence why I find a wide and sloping basking spot is better than just a single narrow basking spot with really only one option for basking in.
Drift wood and rock/brick piles work best, or several different level basking areas to give different temps (within the 95-115F range) the floor of the cage in the warm end can be under 95F and the cool end closer to 75-80F).
