my redfoot (about a little over a year old) has white on her plastron, between the scutes. it is mainly right down the middle. is this normal, like maybe a sign of growth, or is this a symptom of something else? her shell feels hard all over and there are no other abnormalities. Any ideas?? could it be shell rot??

Try posting a photo. Where on your tort is the white spots (Top or bottom.

Just as an aside the only shell rot I have seen was gray/brown in color. (I doubt what you are seeing is shell rot)

the white is on her belly, right down the middle. i will post a picture tonight, when i find my camera and figure out how to post it. thanks!

I think what you have is normal growth - But a picture will give people here a better understanding about your Tort.

It looks to me as normal growth – I have included a photo of my female (I think she is a female) Yellow foot. The white goes away from time to time (When she gets dirty in the mud for example).

If anyone else would like to put their 2 cents, by all means go for it.

Sorry about the reflection on shell - I washed the mud of her before taking her photo.

thanks for showing me your picture. that is pretty much exactly what lucy's white marks look like. sorry about the blurry pics, i couldn't find my camera and i used my boyfriends, and i wasn't sure about all the settings. but i feel much better now about it, so thanks!
