Ranco Thermostat giving an E-2 reading

Anybody know if there's a way to resolve it? I know that it means a memory failure, but what would cause it?

Thanks for the link, but it really doesn't bring any light to what causes a continous E2 reading.

Yes, it does. The unit is defective. It needs to be replaced.
