yellow nile

serpentsndragons Feb 11, 2008 09:25 AM

Has anyone ever seen the show Africa's Outsiders on Discovery or Animal Planet? It shows a white lion, white baboon and a yellow Nile. I have tried to find pictures of yellow niles on the net and came up with nothing. Does anyone know where to find pictures, or if these are ever on the market? I am interested in the yellow nile, let me know what you all think. Thanks.

We have a few. I will try and post a picture for you. I was recently told by a croc rancher in Africa that they can intensify the yellow by including maize' in the diet. I viewed a few pics and the animals where bright yellow. Almost looked surreal.

That lends one to the belief that it may be diet related although my yellow animals eat the same diet as the less so. All the Niles we own become progressively more yellow as the warm up each day. The brighter just get so more brightly.

Interesting info about the diet. I know it's true in other reptiles, especially lizards. I know someone has posted a yellow nile in the classifieds, he sent me pics and it did not look like the one I had seen. If you can post a pic or send me one I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I had the pics sent to me also. What the classified add calls a 'yellow' Nile is really just a slightly more yellow Nile. Some of these originate from Gatorland in Florida. They are pretty but they are nothing like some of the Niles I have seen(and maybe you as well) in terms of yellow.

I guess you can sell them as whatever you want and they may be more yellowish but they are clearly in the normal range for the color. The ones I have seen are highlighter yellow and for a Nile fan like me it took me back as I had never seen a Nile look like these.

So I queried the farm owner and he told me about the maize. I may try it on a few of mine. Below is a photo of a farm with yellow Niles.

Thanks for the picture. That is more like the one I had seen on TV. Not the setting I like to see. But let me know how it turns out with the maize. Email me or just post in the forums when see some promising results. Thanks for the help though.

Yeah I don't like to see them on the slab either but it is an important part of the crocodilian industry and conservation.

Is maize just corn? How do you put it in the diet? Also, have you ever produced any yellow niles and do you ever have them available?? I've been looking for one for quite some time. Do you know JIm Nesci? He has a gorgeous high yellow nile. Thanks.
