True Colombian Hypo Boa(s) ???

boaphile Feb 11, 2008 10:44 AM

I bought a Hypo from Erich Gaertner in 2004. This is a very special Hypo different from the other Hypos we all know and love. This is the story about where he came from:

In 2002, John Carlson, a Reptile dealer and friend of Erich from the Chicago area, was at Strictly Boas when a mess of Boas were shipped in from Colombia. John and Erich are friends. More that just friends. John was not on a mission to buy Boas to sell to Erich. John was buying stuff for his own business and just looking for something cool for his friend Erich. I think he got this for Erich for something like $30 same as all the baby Boas there. Erich had asked John to look out for something special for him while he was at Strictly in the Boa department. Well, John was looking through gazillions of baby Boas that were freshly imported from Colombia. He selected a pair of Pastels for Erich, the "Purple P" and this one Hypo Boa:

A Hypo!? Yes, a Hypo import from Colombia. Erich just found this old picture of the little fella. Here he was back in 2002! This is a shot of him that John took when he bought him for Erich:

I actually have stubbornly been trying to get him to breed one female in particular. A Rob Tudehope produced Pastel that I bought from Rob about 13 or 14 years ago. She has yet to produce for me. I have had this Hypo in trying to breed that female for the past three breeding seasons. No more. He was bred to a new younger girl this year. This girl is a DuBay Pastel that coincidentally was produced by Erich 8 or 9 years ago using a pair of Pastels that he got from me. The DuBay Pastels originated with me from way back so. I know the bloodline and there is nothing but Colombian blood in these critters going back to my original pair of Colombians. These babies, if I am fortunate to have them, will be Great Great Great Grandkids of my original "Big Momma" and "Big Daddy". So I am hoping finally to have some true all Colombian bloodline Hypos maybe in the spring.

Diamonds in the ruff are always nice " no matter what your flavor of Boas are; Locality or Morph or Morph type. " However; in my opinion " wich is just that " the Colombians from old and the ones that you had in your very first video " that were debated for a while wether they might have been colombian B.C.C. or not " were by far the most gorgeous Boas of any type that one would want to lay eyes on. Sure can't find many of them around anymore " with maybe the exception of some of Jim Peters. " The gold with pink dusting or orange with red flanges and deep orange tails or even the ones who's tails would rival even the best Suriname, were unbelievable and to think that they came from some part of the Jungle in Colombia like that " with no selective breeding at all done by humans. " Remebering them Colombians has always " in my mind " proved that nature does the best job at producing true beauty. Money would be no object for me to throw down for even a pair of those unmolested Colombians if I knew were they were. You had a bunch back then ........John
