Hello everybody,
I was wondering which species the animal on this picture might be. Is it the C. melanosterna?

Hello everybody,
I was wondering which species the animal on this picture might be. Is it the C. melanosterna?

Yes it is.
okay thank you. I was not sure. Here is another pic

The first photo you could have guessed either way but by this photo I am saying it is not melanosterna.
You're right. It is a Palearis.
What sizes are your palearis. I've heard that they reach 30cm quickly, but that they grow much more slower after they reached this length. Mine grew in one year from 30 till 40cm.
factor for determining a species. Your animal is a palearis or hybrid at best. Where are you located? Many of the hybrids were spread around Europe and are being sold as melanosterna not because people are dishonest but because they were thought to be the same species at one time. Tom Greb
it came in with a bunch of other ctenosaura lizards (definately palearis and possible quinquecarinata (they had green little spots on their back). So probably juviniels?
Up until just recently those were the only two species imported from the wild but now I think there is a total ban on the exportation of any ctenos in all Central American countries. Whether it is enforced or not is questionable but hold onto that guy as you will(or should) not see anymore coming in.
