training questions (again)

crimsonghost Feb 11, 2008 12:31 PM

Hello again, just to recap. Our Ig is about 6 months old, we switched to the diet recommended here (and his growth has clearly taken off).

I have been putting my hand in his cage for several minutes several times a day. His temperament has not changed – if I approach him he freaks out and runs frantically through the cage to avoid me. I have not tried to pick him up again as I have been following the advice of letting him get use to my hand. Also should note, its only been a couple of weeks. A few weeks back was the last time I caught him and handled him (catching his was a real pita – and he kept nipping at me). Now, just a few weeks later he is larger and I am sort of afraid to be bite by him – I don’t know if he can hurt me or not, so I am getting a little gun shy around him.

He has become a huge pig and eating more and more, he’s only going to get larger. Is this all normal? Will he calm his ass down any time soon?

Should I chase him around his tank until I catch him? Or just keep putting my hand in the tank still?

Oh yeah...does he have teeth? I need to gage how much damage he can do (if any) before I go trying to catch him again. his stomach is about the size of a "C" battery and he is about 7 inches from nose to vent.

Dang it, where'd ya'll go?

I need to know what to do with this lizard. Like I said, 6 months old - not trained a lick. I bought Ig's for dummy's like you all said - the book says to chase it around the cage until I catch it and he will get use to it and trust me....does that sound right to you all?

I think I said, I am kind of afraid to get bit - can a 6 month old Ig do damage? Nose to end of tail he is 12-13 inches (his cage is 18 and I saw him this morning with about 3 inches to spare.

I need to know what I am in for before I dive in to the cage - and I also need ot know if you agree with the book. Some one here told me he will get use to us putting our hands in the cage after about a year. What is the right thing to do?
