how do I make a snow corn?

teaspoon Feb 11, 2008 04:44 PM

I'm just checking to make sure that I'm right because I might but a corn snake on Saturday. If I have an amelanistic male, would I breed him with a anerytheristic(spelling?)female to get snow corn snakes? And, correct me if I'm wrong, but are the offspring suppose to be close to 25% normal, 25% amelanistic, 25%anerytheristic, and 25% snow? I just want to make sure that this is right before I go buy a mate for my male! thanks!

first dont use percentages...the genetics calc's just use them to tell you that you "might" get them or the is a "chance" to get them...but yes you would have the chance for all of them

oh, I know that the percentages don't represent what I will actually get, just an estimated ratio, I just finished biology class, so I think genetics out in punnet squares now, its gotten quite annoying . Am I right that Amelanistic X anerytheristic makes a snow corns? Whats the difference if it is Anerytheristic A or Anerytheristic B?

You would breed an anery x amel to each other that would produce normal looking "double het" offspring, then back-breed the double het(for snow) offspring to each other to get a 1/16th chance of producing a snowcorn out of a theoretical clutch of sixteen eggs. You would also get a prcentage of amels, anerys, normals, and possible hets.

you would get all normals het amel or anery.... a snow is Amel/anery....so i read your post to fast...i only use genetics calcs to tell me what i might get out of a pairing because nothing is for certain until the hatch....Good Luck

so it would just get a bunch of normal hets? What could I breed with an Amelanistic that would give me something besides normals babies with hets? I don't personaly care what they look like, but I will need to sell the hatchlings, which I imagine would be easier if they weren't normal colored.

buy an amel or a snow or anything else with amel in it. The babies will all be at least amel, and maybe more, depending on if your amel is het for anything.

breed an amel to an anery A and you get normals that are het amel and het anery .
when you breed these normals het amel het anery to each other you have chances of getting normals, amels, anerys and snows.

I prefer cherry.

OK OK, I'm noted to be a smart arse. At least I waited til your question was answered.

But a snow cone sure sounds good right about now.
