BCC's tail changed dramatically

Slacker6848 Feb 11, 2008 07:40 PM

My 7' Male Suri RTB got a scrape on his tail about an inch or so long and he just started to go into shed when he did it, now about a week later he shed and his tail looks as if he was a very light Ghost, he typically has a very bright red tail, here's a pic of what he use to look like, i havent gotten a pic yet of what it looks like now. Does anyone know why this would of happened?

Thanks
Zack

You boa's tail is like that because it was injured. It will heal and go back to normal colouration over the next shed or two.

Not necessarily. Snakes can shed pigments in response to toxins or bacterial infections. Or for other reasons not fully understood.

This topic has been discussed in excess on other boards.

I will say that public examples of this have been occurring a lot, more recently.

Food sources can also be linked to some cases.

Just trying to point out possibilities.

I think both Chris and the other poster have valid points. I lean a little more towards Chris's answer though as it is common for injury to cause pigment change in all animals, not just reptiles. Certainly we've seen the all over colorloss reported numerous times on this forum as well as on others and all have had possible causes. I would tend to think he'll regain some, possibly all, of his color, but I'd give him months and many sheds before you see that happen. I don't think it would effect his breeding potential though unless the injury did any damage to that area.
