The photos in both will be slightly outdated but the information is still very valuable. I have VPI's and it is a very good resource.

Good to see someone doing the proper research before buying a new animal, props to you. You will make a wonderful ball python parent, and consider yourself warned, this is addicting so don't be surprised if one turns into many before you know it! Good luck!

I think the Barkers' book is valuable even if you don't keep BPs!

Books are great. Just don't get to excited by statements such as "If you decide to invest in unusual morphs, you may actually enjoy being part of a hobby that has the potential to pay for itself(and more) while allowing you to roll money back into other mutations."
Keep ball pythons 'cause you like them or find them interesting, not as an investment.
You will be greatly dissapointed if you get into this hobby thinking you are going to get rich.
The guys at the top of the pyramid would have you believe otherwise.
Like any pyramid scheme, you guys at the bottom will get burned.

I bought the book for my wife last year, and I really enjoyed reading it, My wife is the Ball Fanatic, but now its starting to rub off on me...I am actually enjoying working with her and her Ball Pythons.

I highly recomend the VPI Book, while I was greatly discouraged that "Pythons of the World Vol.II" was not about Indonesian Pythons, it still is a great book, I actually think it won an Award...but not sure what award.

Best of luck, Ball Pythons are great fun, don't get huge, but just like previously mentioned, don't get sucked into anything, there is lots to learn, and I learn something new everyday...
