My poor little girl passed on today..........

camkrm May 22, 2003 08:44 PM

We have fought to get this little baby to eat and gain strength. We had to assist feed her since Feb 2003. She never made it over 96 grams. Lots of Vet bills, and time put into this sweet baby. She finally gave up on us....its a very sad day. I may be weird but, I treat beautiful snakes ....well as if they were my babies. She will be missed.

Dear camkrm:
Sorry to hear of your BP's passing. Perhaps the best thing to do is quickly obtain a new girl and name it in your last BP's honor. Not to sound callous, my first BP lived over 25 years. I urge you to start over! Scott J. Michaels DVM

I lost several snakes when I first started. Several hundred in vet bills, hours spent obsessing, trying to find the problem......well, last year we moved, and not one of my snakes has been ill at all since then. Thank Goodness!! One vet almost had me convinced I had to destroy my entire collection due to a "particularly virilant strain of salmonella" (SP?).........thank goodness a neighbor who just happened to be a people doctor clued me in that ALL salmonella is particularly virilant!

Don't give up. I lost 5 in about 5 months time, thought I must be the worst keeper ever, but no problems now! (Gotta go find some wood to knock on or something so Murphies law don't bite me in the butt now!)

Sorry about your baby, I know how hard it is after you try so hard to save them to just have them waste away anyway.

Hey sorry for your loss i also lost a pet recently but not to death... My mother gave my puppy away ...... Any ways im sorry for your loss and do you think that her not eating was the cause of her death cause i heard that they would not starve themselvs to death but they would starve themselfs for a long time?

...although uncommon, some snakes WILL starve themselves to death for whatever reason. SJM
