Leucy breeding Question

littleleeper23 Feb 12, 2008 10:28 AM

Hello All,...........We all know a Mojave x lesser platty = a leucy same with butters and vin Russos. My Question is that when you breed a (mojave, lesser) leucy to a normal do you get mojaves and lessers or do all the babies come out somewhere in between with some extremes that go more mojave looking and some lesser looking. Or is there a distinct difference?????????..........Just curious, Thanks and God Bless, Lee VanHyfte

Just read genetics!

Mm = mojave gene
Ll = lesser gene

Mmll x mmLl => MmLl (lucy)

MmLl x mmll (wild colour) => Mmll, mmLl, MmLl, mmll

So you get mojave, lesser, wildcolours and lucies..No extremes or whatever..the combination of the genes allways give you these 4 fenotypes.

The problem with the above is that lesser and mojave don't appear to be two different genes but rather two different mutant alleles of the same gene.

From what I've seen reported you get 50/50 split of lessers and mojave from breeding a lesser//mojave leucistic to a normal. The babies should fall neatly into the two distinct types but there have been a few cases where the two mutations come close enough to overlapping in appearance to lead to confusion even without crossing lines.

it's phenotypes as in phonetics.
