when to change dirt

phantompoo Feb 12, 2008 11:48 AM

I try to spot clean my ackies cage as often as possible. They eat everyday and are about 18grams @ just under 3 months old. However, they are barely 8 inches (guestimate) in a 20 gallong with significant amounts of topsoil. If I don't remove their waste right away, it pretty much dissappears/breaksdown/ or mixes with the soil.

When should I change out the soil, if at all? I believe there are microbes/bacteria that decompose the waste in the topsoil?

I try to use common sense as much as possible(it doesn't smell, or appear "filthy" its dirt for chrissake heh), but anyone with experience please let me know if is should change the soil out.

when you want to. You know, whatever blows your skirt up.

if you read your post(question) you have all the answers already. So the answer is above, when you want to. Cheers
