ants won't go away!! HELP!

dyskrasia Aug 27, 2003 01:14 PM

The ants are thirsty and they keep coming in to go after the water towels in the cricket cages. And then of course they invite all their friends to help eat up the dead crickets (and live ones sometimes). How do I get rid of them? Is there a special way to keep the ants from getting to the crickets altogether? They always seem to find a way to get into the apartment, and it's obvious they're after the crickets and the crickets' water because there's nothing else around for them to get. I don't want to keep losing crickets to the ants because my beardie neeeeeeeeeeeds his crix. This is getting to be really aggravating! Help!

Try going to the old archives (up by the beardie pic at top). I'm sure there is info there.

first off, I would get rid of the wet towels you are using to water your crickets. Instead use a piece of potato, carrot or slice of orange. To keep the ants out of the cricket cage, either use double sided tape all around the edge of the cricket cage (on outside, near the top) and change it whenever it gets covered with ants. Or, put shadow water dishes on the floor away from your crickets and let the ants have their water there. (or better yet put it outside in the shade).

I put a layer of vasoline around the tank and the ants can not cross it

Thanks for the suggestions. I've done the double sided tape thing so far and no ants. I will try the vaseline next if I must. Also the potato thing didn't help at all because the ants were all over that mostly. Thank you anyway!
