My Ball Went off Feed for Almost a Year!

Paradon Feb 13, 2008 08:59 AM

My ball went off feed for almost a year! I have no idea why, but he did. I'm not sure if loose much weight, but he started eating yesterday again. I fed him a large rat and went crazy over it. I guess he was hungry after a year. Anyway it drove me crazy, but when started feeding again I was like doin the happy dance! Does anyone have a ball that went off feed this long? I'm curious to see if this is a normal thing or not. Could it be because I overfeed him, so he wasn't feeling very hungry? I fed him large rat every two weeks before he decided to go off feed in March. I fed him every two weeks because before that he likes to go off feed for at least 7 months, so I got to fatten him up, but I guess I overdid it last year.

i dont think you did anything wrong they just go off feed and theres nothing we can do about it but just keep trying to feed. mine went off feed for at least 6-7 months and when he ate i was forget about it happy! i know the feeling. now lets hope they get back on schedule and do not do this for another year! good luck!

This is a long time to go off feed but I've heard of longer. Mine usually do a 2-3 month fasting. Hope all is well.

Adult balls go off feed regularly during the breeding season (our winter). It can last from two or three months to sometimes six months or more. My sixteen year old female goes for 7-9 months EVERY year. Both her and her mate for life went off for almost a whole year some time back for no apparent reason. As long as he's not loosing a lot weight don't be overly concerned. He'll start up again when he's ready. Just continue to offer food every week or two till he kicks in. Hope this helps.

Yeah, thanks for the input. I thought I have a weird one! LOL! Mine just ate yesterday, so I'm relieve and doing the happy dance. He went for 11 months from the middle of March to Febuary. This is a record time for him. Hopefully, this year he won't go off feed as much.
