Pied project finale - it's over

jmartin104 Feb 13, 2008 03:37 PM

Well, for those who have provided encouragement, the last of my eggs died. The last four eggs were near full term but severely kinked. I'm not really sure what happened. I know my controller failed to shut off but it did not appear that the temps went beyond 93-95 degrees. Maybe that was enough. Sigh, I'm about ready to give up with my Pied project. It has been nothing but a headache for the past few years.

93-95 is plenty to kink burmese, I'm not sure about balls, but I would think it would be about the same.

Pieds can be a pain. They sometimes grow slow and can be tough to get eggs from, then something like this happens. Hang in there, the reward will be worth it.

Darn it!!!!

I know how hard you worked on that project and to see it not go through is a kicker!

Gotta ask - were there any pieds?

Better luck next season!!

One was less developed than the rest and it looked Pied. But I'm telling myself it wasn't so I won't finish this whole bottle of JD - at least not right away.

It will be that much sweeter when you finlly hit your own Pieds born and bred by your own hand-thats all...

A little John Daniels and some introspection will put you right Jay.

on some project, pardon the pun. when you hatch your first pieds [and you will] it'll all be worth it. i've been trying to make dh albino pieds for 4 years, finally got 2 clutches in 07, first clutch 5 eggs, all went bad, second cluch 7.2 double hets. seven males? how bout a taste of that jack, buddy? kd

Jay,

I am so sorry to hear that. I have kept my fingers crossed that you would get one egg to term and really hoped it would turn out to be a pied.

You aren't alone, believe me, you aren't alone. I bought a trio of het pieds in 2001. They were a pretty good price for then. Only had one clutch from them, the pastel I put in there sired them. So, another project.
Now I can buy a trio of pieds for 40% less than I got the hets for. I plan to try and sell them this weekend, enough is enough.

I am sorry to hear that Jay And you can't give up it's not in the cards. on another note I have a male het that would be more than happy to take on your female het

Pieds and hets do You have.? I have a group that I have been working with for 5 years and haven't yet got a desent egg out of them. They are either half shelled or all duds or fertile unshelled eggs.

One egg in 5yrs and it was a normal. I feel your pain on this. If I don't get a clutch of eggs out of atleast one of these gals,I'm going to give them to some young herper and not even tell him or her there het pieds... But the Guy I got mine from bet his shop on me getting pieds out of these so...lol... Hey He bet Me.. Its not me or You that has the Problem its something in some of the lines of het/Pieds. It gets You down watching a het drop a pile of duds ,or eggs that are doomed from the start.. How long did they stay at 93 degrees an hour or two is nothing, depending on how far along they were.

If You can email Me about this and We can talk,or give Me a call

Sorry to hear that... hang in there.. there's nothing better than hatching out your own. Are you working with 100% hets, or pied x hets, or pied x pied??? Hearing these pied breeding issues is begining to make me a bit nervous

I'm working with 100% hets, but my biggest issue is getting the damn things up to size. EVERYONE eats except the het pieds. One small rat a month is about all I can get them to do.

Same issue here..the only snake that wants specific food is the het. pied girl. Try to feed her more regulary and put her in a rack if she isn't.
Last year I had only 3 good eggs because of her size (1.6kg), but one of them was a pied..faith is out there

ChadRamsey Feb 15, 2008 09:45 AM

I am working 2 different line myself and am have ALL of the above problems as well.

one female i cant get up to weight due to picky feeding habits
the other is up to weight but DOESNT want to breed. She has been probes by 3 different folks, includung myself too.

Out of all the great looking BP's out there, the Pieds are still my favorites. They always bring out the "WOW, now that ones pretty, and I don't even like snakes", from people who don't appreciate these animals.
