Romaine

DannyBoy9 Feb 13, 2008 07:10 PM

I have to disagree. There is no reason to "avoid" products with romaine. Where did this advice arise? Romaine lettuce obviously shouldn't be a staple diet but certainly has it's place in an OVERALL diet, especially as a great hydrater. Blended with other more nutritious greens it is a positive. We often combine "spring mixes" with our garden produced greens but primarily avoid the baby spinach leaves that are often present, not the romaine. Endive, raddichio, turnips, bok-choy, dandelion & mustards have been our winter staples for years. Spring, we kick in lots of flowers as well.
And don't neglect the "seed foods."

Fresh blueberries make excellent hydrators plus they have lots of vitamins and other essential nutrients. I also serve sprouted green pea and sprouted lentil seeds. Dandelion greens are available in the local grocery along with cilantro and other varieties of dark greens.

I have also had uro's eat aloe leaves and jade tree leaves. They know where the potted clover plant is, as soon as I turn uro's loose on the floor they run right over to it.

Every time one of them eats something new or different I document it. The list is growing quite long!

Good advice, though I wonder about the Jade Tree. Kinda risky.

The jade eater is the big fat one in the picture!
