Basking Position

GoodSmeagol Feb 14, 2008 03:48 PM

My dragon basks, oddly, he is 8inches 60-70grams, a nice belly, but when he basks, he sits on a right angled pirce of rick, and it pushs his belly in, for me I would think OUCH, but there are plenty of smooth rocks to bask on,
4 soft basking spots 2 dragons
1 - 105f
2- 102f
3- 96f
4- 111f

degree or 2 up or down dependant on room temperature.

I thought those were perfect temps alowing choices for each dragon, but he always chooses this akward position with a > in his stomach,
good? bad? wutever?
let me know thanks

My guy is about the same. We have a log in his enclosure that was actually for fish..I just snipped off the plants. It has some "mushroom" looking pieces on it. Ifrit lays right on top of them...it always looks like they are cutting in but he doesn't seem to mind at all. I was going to file them down, but he hasn't been injured from it!I've even put a different kind of rock in there just to see and he always chooses this one. Here's a pic..you can see a small indention in his tummy from the jagged piece!Hope this helps

Personally I think they choose the besk basking site based on temp., light, UVB, etc. with comfort being the last consideration. I bet if you put in a higher flatter basking pot he'd choose that over a jagged one.
