tub heating probs?

timbuktu Feb 14, 2008 06:10 PM

I originally was going to house my first ball in a 30 gallon aquarium but have decided on a 32 qt tub.

I have zoomed heat pad the is 11"x6" on one side controlled by a dimmer witch is working well and holding temp at about 90-93. but the cool side is in the low 70's is there anything I can do to get this up? I also have really high humidity without a water dish it is at 85% I have carefresh as substrate and I have drilled some hole in the tub but I am wondering if I drill more holes to lower humidity wont this make it even harder to keep the cool side temps warm enough? any suggestions would be great.thanks.

85% humidity is pretty high. I keep mine around 60% - 65%. It also seems odd that you would get 85% humidity with the cool end in the low 70's. If you are really having a difficult time raising the temp on the cool side, you could use heat tape on the cool end as well and use a separate dimmer to reach the desired level.

You also mentioned a "Zoomed" heat pad. Are you referring to heat tape that is attached to the underside of the tub or are you using an actual heat pad inside the tub? You definitely don't want the snake coming into direct contact with the heat source.

thanks for the reply. the heat pad is a Under tank heater. I added a small space heater to the spot where I will be keeping the snake to help bring up the temps and I drilled a few more holes in the tub and that dropped it a little so I will just keep drilling i guess until the humidity is in range.

How do all you keep the cool side temps in the 80 range? heat the whole room the tubs are in to that temp? or do you use two under tank heaters? thanks.

in my experience im never too concerned with low 70s on cool side as long as they have that warm side they will go to where they need. i keep mine in under bed size totes in hommade rack with thermostat and all do well i keeep about high 80 close 90 warm side. temps are just aguide you have to llok at how snake is doing more than exact temp. if eating good and defacating normally than your fine. so base on that snd dont worry too much. drilling holes wont lowrr temp too much
