Brought this chunky St. Mary's girl up after a shortened 'southern' brumation we'll see how it goes...

Chris, the elongated head and the orange tints to the white are characteristics of the NJ population. There is a connected band as well....Nice snake regardless!

100% St. Mary's from Ted Thompson's amazing stock... some of these posts have made me inclined to snag some nice close up head shots of varied locales as comparison... would encourage some help in it!!

Chris after a few generations captive populations can easily diverge from the "classic" look of the founding population. I've seen some southern MD stock that looked like they came from NC. St. Mary's is pretty much ground zero for coastals and their genotype can produce phenotypes more typically associated with other localities. Add a dash of "un-natural selection" (ie pretty over fit) on the breeder's part and anything is possible. In any case you've got some dynamite looking coastals! Had I known you were this rising temporalis God I would have charged more for the hypos you got! LOL

cn013 Feb 19, 2008 11:46 AM

Actually you're very correct... suppose you knew that anyway!! About the rising "God" status... lol.... ummmm not so much. Coastals just so happen to be a long-term favorite for me, as well as elapsoides. Doubt I'll ever know "when enough is enough" if you know what I mean. Plus there are temp localities and even whole states missing from my collection so... gotta work on that! As for the price... yeah man you really should've charged more for the lil' male! Funny thing is I still probably would have paid it w/o blinking!

Have a good one,
Chris

Tell me that center elaps is an adult female! if so we need to talk before you breed her this year.

cn013 Feb 19, 2008 02:00 PM

Good and bad news... yup it's a female but will certainly need another year at least.... dependant on this year she may even need two... but yeah I imagine you'd care about her!!
I'll do my best to get her plump...

I just gott'a say this again,...........that is one EXCEPTIONAL looking elapsoides. The amount of yellow on that girl is unbelievable!.......I've seen bananas with less yellow!..LOL!

That other one you posted is absolutely gorgeous too!

need to hook her up with my hypo SK!

DMong Feb 19, 2008 09:58 PM

Man,........you're not kidding!, that would produce an absolutely KILLER combination when back-bred.

Yeah it would be an interesting cross actually... especially since she may, in fact, be a hypo herself. I've never really gotten great pic to express it but her sheds are free from any hint of pattern and she actually seems to be getting lighter w/ age. Very interested in what they would produce combined... still need to hunt down some other SK's here in FL so I can match her up eventually and maintain her locality as well. I've thrown in a pic of her with another nice lil' SK to try to better present what I'm seeing. Please guys let me know what your thoughts are on this...

Thanks,
Chris

Ya know what's really funny is the fact that it looked somewhat lighter to me also in your other pic, but I didn't want to start a big stir, you know how things can get sometimes..LOL! It's kind of hard to see the comparative colors real well though because of the dark cast to the pic. Can you take some other sharp, well lit pics. This could get very interesting. In any case, you have got one "killer" elapsoides, as well as the other great looking ones too!

"Ya know what's really funny is the fact that it looked somewhat lighter to me also in your other pic"

Too funny, I had the exact same thought. Chris my SK has done the exact opposite. he started out an obvious hypo and has darkend somewhat. He is still very clean and the black definately faded but it doesn't pic up too well in a photo. I'll have to try and get some better shots of him shortly.

Here is an older one which was a bit overexposed but it gives an idea of how clean he is.

That's a SWEET one as well!,....I love those tiny little dudes.
