07 Black milk

Steve_Craig Feb 15, 2008 08:27 PM

I don't keep many types of milks, but I couldn't be happier with the ones I chose. Here's a couple of photos of my 07 male I received from Paul Weaver. First pic is shortly after I received him, and the second pic was taken this evening. I've kept a variety of colubrids, and I think without a doubt these are right at the top of the list as my favorites. Thanks for looking.
Steve

Yeah I've been wanting a black milk for quite some time... just have to make room so to speak... move out a hondo or two and I guarantee it'll be filled with a pair of black milks... Thanks for the post... please keep'em coming.

Nice Steve - great choice. Just think, in a couple of years, it will look like this!

My blackmilk is at least 2.5 to 3 years old and he is no where near that big. I feed him regularly (rats) even his color change has not been as fast as most report. I bought him from John Cherry's son at a reptile show in Houston, so I have no doubt of the purity. I woud post pics but he is in shed right now.

Concerned and confused,
Miller

well I guess I used the term "in a couple of years" pretty loosely. That snake I pictured is 7 years old.

How long and how much does your snake weigh?

...Unfortunately, I do not have a scale to weigh my snakes. I am, not a breeder so I don't track my snakes growth to that extreme like most of you do (maybe I should start for times like this) I am going to guestamate he is an '05 animal otherwise i would have to pull credit card records to remember when i go him as a new hatchling. I was guess he is right at 3' maybe a slight bit longer and as a big around as one of those jumbo pencils from back in the day(much bigger around than a number2). He is eating the small rats that I order form Rodent Pro if that gives you some Idea. They leave a noticable lump but not too large.

Thanks again for the help,
Miller

Here are some photos of my '07 female and my circa '05 Male. He is in shed so appears darker than he actually is. the tube he is in is 3ft and stretch out he is longer than the tub.

I am no expert, I just got my first gigae this year but that guy seems pretty small if he is actually three years old. This one is only 2 months old in this pic and is almost double this size now at 6 months.

Joeycoco98 Feb 19, 2008 10:46 PM

Zack,I added more pics to that link of my female and of my male (the one in question" he eat like a pig one to two small rats a week ( mostly one but if the rat is small enough I may give hime two) So don't know if you scroll through all the pics but here are links to the most recent taken this month. I have always thought he was not growing fast enough and believe me when i say I have had snakes most of my life and his feeding regiment is not an issue. Let me know if these are the pics you looked at. If I am remembering correctly he will either be two or three this year. the container he is in is 3' long and stretched out he is longer than the container by a couple of inches.

I have a page I created to mark the color changes my black milks went through from 9 mos to 2 yrs old. It was neat to see how the change was slightly different from one snake compared to the other.

I still have them and they are great to work with. Sorry, no updated pics or weights, they are still brumating.

They are fed weaned rats weekly to every 10 days.

They were Vivid Reptiles' stock that originated from the founding San Antonio Zoo lines.

Ken, I read your link pertaining to onyx and velvet with the time frame it took to go through their change. Excellent examples of two different individuals that had different rates in change of color, but in the longrun, same result.
