My cages - back to aspen

EddieF Feb 16, 2008 09:02 AM

A while back, Belle was sneezing and the vet couldn't find anything wrong with her so I changes some environmental things. Went to CareFresh, for instance. It was okay but I didn't like the look of it and she still sneezes occasionally after a meal or big drink of water. So I think it's just how she is, and I know it's not the aspen.

So today everybody got a full cage cleaning, and they got a nice soaking while their apartments were being serviced. Like a spa day.

Here is Belle, she immediatealy started tunneling in the aspen, something that just didn't work as well with the carefresh. Seems like she likes it! Weighed her today, 665 grams, does that sound right??

This is Butchie, he also started tunneling right away. I'm really glad I switched back. That half log on the left is new, he outgrew his other cold side hide.

Here's Dexter, you can just barely see him in his log. He's always been on aspen. Bluerosy, I'm going to weigh him tomorrow when I feed him, I'll let you know. But he's thickening up!

Nice looking cages and kings! I use aspen in all my tubs and cages too. It looks like you're using the Zoo Med aspen. I use it too. I think it's the best aspen you can get. Not cheap, but worth it.

I've got a Mosaic S. Georgia eastern that seems to have some sort of respiratory problem, but I'm pretty sure it's not from the aspen either. He's growing like a weed, but I think I'm gonna take him to the vet soon. For now I've cranked up the heat. I didn't brumate this winter as the ambient temps are very cold up here in the mountains anyway, and I don't plan to breed most of my kings until next year.
