baby crix in cage...what the hell?

alex P Aug 27, 2003 03:32 PM

i recently noticed a multitude of baby crickets in my gecko's cage. is this a problem? how did this happen? should i bother cleaning out substrate, etc? i have suspected that the cork bark in his cage has housed the occasional mealworm long enough for them to turn into beetles, but remove those without too much of a problem. the crix however are very tiny and im thinking they could either escape through the sceen or irritate my geck. please let me know what i should do as well as how i can prevent this from occuring again.
thanks,
alex

Most likely a female laid eggs that hatched, I'd take verythign out and make sure they are all gone I think the lay 100's of eggs!

This has also happened to me,somebody laid little eggs in one of the moist hides and before I knew it I was raising crickets. They did annoy my poor little girl and the only thing to do is clean the whole cage out, as well as any moist hides you may have.

A female cricket must have laid her eggs in there. My leo wouldnt eat the crix so i left them in there for a bit and a week later, hundreds of crix! The way to prevent it is not leaving crix in for long periods of time, just feed the gecko whatever she'll eat at once and take the rest out. just clean everything off in water and you'll get rid of them. hope this helps
