Don't worry this one was already dead.

When she says she is a softie by letting the chick live u post a pick of its thrawed up brother getting no mercy hahahaha
I did have a point to make though. That particular monitor (Yoshi) has always been a picky eater. I had a really hard time getting him to like mice and I could never get him to eat crickets. While I don't think chicks or quail are as good as rodents for a base diet it really struck a cord with him. So I would order a few frozen chicks and mice and alternate them or feed him mice that thawed with the chic (scenting it). I think chicks & quail make great alternitives for stubborn feeders and the occasional variance in diets.
Sorry Michelle, I wasn't trying to be a crack head.
I don't know that I could feed a live chick either. I really like birds.
Later all, Gene
But then again I have rats, mice, chicks, and even chickens in my freezer. Maybe the next time I thaw out a 2 lb. chicken and feed one of my monitors I will post a picture. Or of my big male croc downing a 6lb. chicken might appeal to you all more? LOL
I agree if you cannot get yourself to feed live then go with frozen. There are other benefits to frozen as well.
Oh and my snakes like chickens as well.
As horrid as it sounds I would love to see any of those feeding pics.
I could feed live if necessary but I really prefer frozen. Not only is it cheaper but I feel it is probably safer.
I just like baby birds though. I raised this one from about 9 weeks old. He is about 13 or 14 now I never can remember.

I used to be a bird brain LOL I bred lovebirds, cockatiels, and conures. Now I just have my umbrella cokcatoo Samantha as a pet. Her only problem is being only 6 she acts like a spoiled rotten brat.
Oh and to keep this about monitors I'll be sure to get pictures of them feeding and post them.
Ive been thinking about giving my python fowl, but wasnt sure if was a good idea.
just be for warned they sometiems get hooked on it and want nothing else. Works great for getting a picky feeder eating. So far so good with my snakes none of them have gotten attached to one food they eat whatever I decide to put in there. Even my hand on occasion LOL
I have been feeding cheeps for a while. Im not sure why this one got to me...But she sure did. Ive NEVER even had a pet bird, but this little chicken is always hanging out on my shoulder, or eating crickets out of my hand. I took it outside today, and it was following me all over!! They are so smart! Im shocked at its intellegence. Way cool animal. When she falls asleep on my lap she makes this little cooing whistle. Man, too cute! We set up a little wire cage for her today, but for the first 24 hours I had her in the Mangrove enclosure thinking that it would be ok since shes almost 3 weeks old, and way too big for them to eat. Boy was I wrong! When I got home from school, my boyfriend reported that the Mangroves had tried to hunt her down...working TOGETHER! They stragically surrounded her from locations in the cage that put them at an advantage, and when she was cornered, they tried to get her! Luckily for all animals involved, my boyfriend was there to intervene! Animals constantly act in ways that blow my mind! Maybe I just underestimate their potential for reasoning and thought...
I also found something VERY cool(actually HOT) at the feed store today when I was buying chick starter. They sell 250 watt shatterproof heat lamps for 3 bucks each!! They also sell 12" ceramic based hooded fixtures for 7 bucks!! Pretty good find I think. Just thought I would share the knowledge for those who appreciate saving a buck
Michelle
Hey Michelle, glad I didn't offend
Let me tell you, birds are a lot of work but there simply aren't too many other animals out there that are smarter. I don't have any chicken experience but I have raised various parrots & they can be super smart. Not to mention very affectionate, and comical. They also bond with people and that is really neat. To have an animal that would rather spend time with you than do anything else in the world.
Best of luck with the little chickie and please keep us posted.
Isn't it really cool how animals, even one's thought not to be so smart can work togeather. Your description reminds me of a scene in Jurassic Park where the Velociraptors (sp) were hunting togeather.
Being that birds evolved from reptiles I think herps think more than we give them credit for, at least sometimes. My BRNs not only look bird like but they seem to "think" too.
Later.
Too funny. Keep us updated on the little peep.
