question about breeding..

babystolemydingo Feb 17, 2008 12:46 AM

first off I have never sexed them as I dont dare do it without being properly shown first so I am going by what I was told when I bought them.

my male pastel has locked up with one of my females, but I havent seen a lock with my second female yet. (only own 2 females)

tonight i put my male in with my 2nd female and she did something strange, she was wagging her tail and dragging her cloaca on the newspaper all around her enclosure.

is the tail wagging, cloaca dragging common for females or could i possibly have been sold a male on accident? or is this some kind of come on to the male like "hey baby come get me" lol

sorry if this seems like a dumb question but ive read contradicting info on this.

thanks

I posted this same question a month or so back and got mixed replies. My female spider did it to my male pastel. They locked several times before she did this, but never after she did. Hope you have better luck, or a more determined male!

They were locked this morning when I checked on them before work and are still locked tonight. This is the 3rd time I reintroduced them together since I posted this similar thread. So keep your hopes up and maybe persistance will pay off for you!!!! Good luck!

I've owned Ball Pythons for over 20 years but this is my first attempt at breeding so I'm not the most experienced by any stretch of the imagination, but my male & female have locked up seven times that I have witnessed & almost every time I have witnessed her doing some sort of tail wagging, cloaca displaying prior to lock-up. One time she actually cracked him in the face with her wagging tail & it was pretty amusing to see.

This is confusing brhavior. There was a thread on this a while back and some folks said after this behavior they got immediate locks while others had nothing after this behavior. You could have gotten a male by mistake or it may be a female and just not compatible to your male. I have some females that will not take certain males, just picky I guess. Some females will lock with whatever I throw in there, sluts I guess!LOL Get your snakes sexed so you will know what you have.
