Costa Rica?

maxwells Aug 27, 2003 04:10 PM

Good Day,

A short while ago, someone posted links to various lodges they stayed at in Costa Rica. I thought about book marking the links, but always thought I could come back to Kingsnake & grab it off the forum. However, I have searched the forum, and cannot find that post, anywhere.

Would anyone have any suggestions on lodges within Costa Rica? Doing a web search has yielded a great deal of information, but it takes a good bit of sorting out. Our main focus will be hiking some of the national parks, and looking for various flora & fauna. Therefore, if there are suggestions on great sites/lodges for that, I’m all ears!

Thank you, all, in advance!

this is really weird because it just so happens on the crocodilian forum a guy is going to costa rica and is asking if anyone wants to join him! i believe he said he'll do the booking the cost is $700 but you could contact him and find out if he knows of any other good places to stay. he is going there to look for caiman. good luck

I believe I was the one that posted that info here, but I can't find it either. Well, I have been to Costa Rica twice now and it is the greatest place! This has been one of my favourite lodges

They have dart frogs just around the rooms and it is totally amazing and they give really great hikes on good trails for not much money.
La Selva Biological Station is another of my favourites and is near the Selva Verde Lodge so you can stay at the lodge and bus up to La Selva. They have a pretty big piece of land, awesome guides and HUGE HUGE variety of animals. There we saw wild pigs, boas, vipers, frogs, bats fish it was amazing.

You should go to Tortuguero National Park, it is so far away from everything and you need a boat to get there, but they have the coolest boat tours ever! I don't know their link I seemed to lost it but jsut search the park name
You can see pictures from my latest trip there on my Pictures of my terrariums and frogs link there and its the costa rica album

Sweet! Thank you for reposting. My husband & I have been tossing the idea around for some time. We just did a count of vacation days, and it might be plausable. Now, it's on to the research phase! Thank you, again.

I wonder where that post went to? Strange. Good to know I have not gone crazy, and you cound not find it, either.

You have to stay at the Arenal Vista Lodge at the base 0of the Arenal Volcano. Yes it is an active volcano!!!

I enjoyed Arenal and stayed at that lodge or one right near it. We got to see some of the molten action the night we were driving towards it. My group also took a hike around the bottom, although we were a mile and half or so away it was pretty scary because it is active. Really great area with lots of great birds!

Say you went and stayed at a lodge in Costa Rica..
and say that there were dart frogs hoppin around all over the place. I think i know the answer to this question-- Could u catch some and bring them home?? lol i know it sounds stupid, but i'm 17 with a big imagination, so i dream big. thanks

p.s.- i know bout the whole w/c parasite factor

i've got 7 wc hawaiian auratus that are great- they're always out. When i get close to the tank with sudden movements, they'll seek cover, but 2 minutes later they're right back out.

I dont know the laws, but to export the animals (legally) you would more then likely need a permit. Then air port security will probibly think you have a dirty bomb then leave your frogs in the costa rican sun for hours then blow up the package...

but seroisuly, lol, im not sure. I would say you need at least and export permit.

One of the guys I was with exported some butterflies and other insects, they didn't check his bag or many others. He did have a permit, but I wouldn't bring frogs back as bad as I wanted too because that is one long flight for some frogs, But I sure considered it!
