Open mouth breathing

MCConstrictors Feb 17, 2008 08:00 PM

Hey,
I've got an adult male beardie that's open mouth breathing in small spurts. His temps are ~105 basking spot, room temp on the cool side. He eats greens and superworms, and we keep him on play sand. He's got UVB... basically, his set up is textbook.
He isn't making any noises that would indicate RI to me. Why would he be doing this? He weighs ~447g, and is probably a little under 2 ft. long (including tail)... just in case it matters.

When does he do it? When he's basking?

MCConstrictors Feb 17, 2008 10:25 PM

Yeah, for the most part he does it when he's basking. He's also only started to do it tonight, and I just wanted to get on top of it in case it is something that I should be worried about.

Also, another thing that I thought might be causing it is that we cleaned/sifted his sand tonight, and although I thought we waited long enough to put him back in for the sand to settle, possibly sand particles that were still floating around in the air could be bothering him? It's just a thought.

Thanks for any insight...

What was the resolution to the blood blisters you posted about a month or so ago? I backchannelled you but you never replied.

I don't check my email half as much as I should... but I'm about to email you back about it.

Basically, though, that seems to be okay now.
