NEW TO BREEDING!

geckoman2000 May 22, 2003 09:07 PM

This is my first time breeding leopard geckos. I have done alot of research on it and the female is now pregnant with her first clutch. I have been told that i can make an incubator. Are these as effective? Will the babys hatch? Please respond because i need to know if i should be an incubator before she lays.

Thank You

I have a regular hide and then a lay box with vermaculite(not sure how to spell it) in it. Is this all i need? also when she lays the eggs should i pick them up right away or wait a certain amount of time.

Thank You

Yes it is very important to have your incubator setup and calibrated, well before your female lays. I use the hovabator, they dont cost much, and have worked well for me. There are plenty of 'home-brew' incubators out there, you will just have to do some research on the web to find one you can put together. I use moist vermiculite in all my layboxes, ive had the best luck with it. Make sure your female has plenty of calcium, so she can lay heathly eggs. If you have more questions, let us know, im sure someone can help.

This method I think is the easyest way to make an incubator. There are better explanations on the web but this one is quite good to:
