Shedding HELP!!

NewbieOwner Feb 18, 2008 04:44 PM

My ball went into the first shed since I've had her.. She's only a month old and I'm worried. It's coming off in peices, cleaned her cage last night and pulled out two or three of them. The humidity's between 70 and 90 and I'm misting twice a day.. WHAT"S MORE DO I DO????? Helo please.

I put my ball python in a pool of shallow, luke warm water, for its first shed, within an hour it was done in one piece, including eye caps.

The number on the humidity gauge doesn't matter as much as the quality of shed. Obviously, since the snake is shedding in pieces, something isn't right.

What substrate are you using? What are your current temperatures on the hot and cold side? What type and size of cage is she in? Do you use a UTH or a sort of radiant heat source (like a heat lamp)? What area of the country do you live in (for instance, right now I bet cold places like the mountains are quite dry)?

There's a lot more you can do, but first we need a bit more information about your setup.

A lukewarm soak usually helps with the shed. Usually works best if you put them in a tiny amount of water (less than 1/4" in a tub of some kind with a lid, and just leave them alone for 15 minutes or so. Then you just put the snake back in its cage, and the shed should take care of itself.

Wet a pillow case, wring it out and put the snake in it. Tie the case and leave the snake for 20 minutes or so. It has worked for me but is a quick fix. Like stated in the last post you need to make sure all your husbandry is correct for the benefit of your snake.
