Question for those that bree feeder mice

LoKii Feb 19, 2008 05:35 PM

So this is my first year breeding feeder mice for my snakes. I have a relatively small colony. About one male and eight females adults are kept in a 40 breeder tank and my grow out tank for the babies is a 55 gallon tank. Anyways I was checking the grow out tank and saw a dead mouse. Still warm, no one had started to nibble on it or anything. My question is this, what do you do with the ones that die before you send them to the gas chamber? Do you just toss it, or do you feed it to your snake asap or do you freeze it and feed it later? Any input is appreciated.

i chunk them myself, dont know what killed them so dont want to take a chance of feeding them to my reptiles. If u get a chance check out www.arbreptiles.com and check out his rat racks. I built a few and love them think it might be better than the tanks.

I live on and own 40 acres in the middle of no where desert. I just throw them outside. A coyote, raven, or something else will have it gone by the next day.

Even when I lived in the city I would just throw them in the bushes or on the side of my house for a raccoon or something. I have a bag of frozen rat pups outside now and nothing has taken it, i guess they are too busy going through the trash.
