question about breeding

teaspoon Feb 20, 2008 02:52 PM

I'm trying to breed my ball pythons for the first time and I think that the female is gravid but I'm not sure. In december I lowered the temperature to the 70s and stopped feeding. I would out them together for a week, separate them a week or two, back and forth. Themale wass starting to look alot thinner so I warmed it back up to like 80degrees and fed both of them. That was about two or 3 weeks ago. Now the female looks fatter than normal and is shedding, but is has been a long time since her last shed, so it might not be a pre-lay shed. Should I start feeding them regularly now? Do you think that the female is gravid? If it is her pre-lay shed, when should I expect eggs? Sorry for all the question but I dont' want to mess this up.

Did you see them copulate? Is the female gettig fatter in the lower third of her body? Also, she should have ovulated at some point if she is gravid, did she swell up real huge for 1/2 day or so ay any time?

I've seen them copulate many times. She's just fat in the middle, not really the last third. I didn't notice whether or not her body swelled up for a day; That's what ovulation is, right?
During what part of the year do the females usually become gravid? Is it during the burmation or after the temperatures go back up?
