Dwarf Caiman not defecating, Help plz

JusFTW Feb 20, 2008 08:44 PM

Dwarf Caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus)

I got him just over 3 weeks ago and the day I got him he defecated but hasn't since then. Hes still just a baby, guy I purchased from said he is captivebred but dont have exact date. He's just about 9 inches long. Its been 23days and I pretty sure going that long with out defecating cant be good.

Hes eating on crickets and minnows. For the first 2 weeks he was only eating fish but now his main diet is crickets with some fish swimming in the tank, so if hes every hungry he can eat 1 of them. I though he wasn't defecating cause maybe i over-feed him but I didnt feed him for 4 days and he still didnt go, I started feeding him again. I feed him 4-5 crickets every other night. I've read alot on the calcium and B1 deficiency. I wanted to wait atleast a month before I started feeding him pinkies. He just seemed abit small to start eating them yet.

He's got good size to him, not skinny at all. He does nothing during the day, sleeps in water most of time. At night hes always moving around and digging in the rocks. The water temperature is 82-84F in water. Air temperature is 90F in basking spot, 82F on cool side of tank, during the day. At night its 75-77F.

Ive been looking for a vet that will look at him but have yet to find one that see's crocodilian's. Ive been told to give him mineral, that might help him defecate. But I'd like to get as much suggestions as I can. Ive been searchin all over the internet for the best few days and cant seem to find anything to help me.

Any suggestions are wanted/appreciated.

Thanks
Justin

He can easily eat rat pinks now(probably even fuzzies). He is more than likely not defacating because his meals are so small. As long as he is eating well for you I would not worry.
