Baby bearded issue

ladypearl Feb 21, 2008 04:47 PM

Got 2 babies from the reptile show , the one is super healthy eats really well and moves around a lot. The other one is not, I have gotten him to eat twice, But to me he looks dehydrated (his eyes are not like the other guys) so I have been misting him everytime I walk by the cage which is a lot. Today he has perked up some, ate a meal worm & has his head up for the first time since getting him. So maybe he is coming around.
My question is though how can you tell if they are dehydrated??
And should I mist Him everyday? Is that ok?
Oh, and should they be in separate cages? They came together so I just left them together, But have been thinking maybe the healthy guys not letting the smaller weaker one eat?

You are right to think the healthy one is bossing the weaker one around. Dragons in pairs do that sometimes. I would seperate them for sure. I dont like raising my dragons in pairs until they are about 12 or 13 inches usually.

A dehydrated dragon will have sunken in eyes if it is extreme, usually they are lethargic and "dry looking" when they just really need to drink.

I mist my animals every other day. They all drink and that means I don't have to keep water bowls in the cage. I mist the smaller animals, but the adults I will soak two or three times a week.

Make sure your temperatures are correct as well.

I would separate them. Stress can be a major factor in a failure to thrive situation. It certainly won't hurt to separate them. I am not a big fan of misting with the thought that it keeps them hydrated. I'd try dripping water on his nose with an eyedropper and see if he laps it up.

Ok. will do just set up the extra tank.
He laps up the water, His eyes are sunken in some.

Thanks guys.
