i need help

bonniejoe Feb 21, 2008 08:11 PM

i have a free roaming iguana in my house who i have had for 4 years she's nine now, and i love her.
today she got out on the balcony, which in the summer is fine but its -15c. i live in canada.
i dont know how long she was out there but, she was frozen stiff. i slowly warmed her up in a bath where she seizured for awhile and even after awhile was all hissing and tried to attack me(she hasn't done that in a long time). It was a huge relief to see her like that, but i fear that freezing that like had to do some damage. This was an emotional night for me, if anyone knows what happens to an iguana after something like this?

I'm sorry to hear all that! Is she doing well now (i.e., eating, pooping, climbing?). I'd definitely take her to a veterinarian if you can. She might have frost bite on the toes or tail... I have no idea what kind of damage it might cause to organs. Good luck with her!

thank for responding,
she is eating again.. last night and moving around fine. Waiting for her to poop though. I will take her to the vet but things are a little tight right now. Do you know what frostbite on a reptile wold look like?

man i thought she was a goner. i mean she was frozen stiff, not hard but stiff. I am amazed at how well she is doing. I am so happy.

not sure what frostbite would look like. Watch for any discoloration though. You might also try gently pinching on her digits and tail to make sure he feels everything.

glad to hear she is doing well!
