Unfortunate News

Doug Beckwith Feb 21, 2008 08:46 PM

With what might be the most contentious west TX herp season soon to be upon us, I got a bit of unfortunate news today at work. I heard that Ray Spears and his wife are leaving Alpine for El Paso sometime next month.

We can only hope that Ray's replacement will perform his duties with the equivalent amount of professionalism and common sense that Ray has shown over the years.

Ray, thank you for the respect you have shown herpers during your time patrolling the Bend. I can only hope that most showed you the same in return. I wish you and your wife Grace good luck w/ whatever your move brings.

That is sad news, the one and only time I met with him he was professional and a gentleman. He even wanted to see some pics. I, too, hope his replacement is like minded in duty and in kinship.

Wow that IS unfortunate. Good luck to you, Ray! The conversation we had on 118 last June was quite friendly and helpful (plus I got my first chance ever to show my hunting license!)....

This is very sad for us. I met Ray on the big hill at 3 am one evening. He was just checking us out. He was very cordial and professional. He even took the time to chat with us a bit. Funny thing was as he was leaving he ran over a huge Suboc heading down the hill towards Presidio. At the time he had someone else in the truck with him and the guy was plain clothed, but heeled. Maybe a warden in training! Best of luck to you Ray.
