Thanks to everyone for all your help - and now...here's my new BP!

Tigergenesis Aug 27, 2003 07:02 PM

I finally did it. After getting all my equipment/supplies, I set up my tank and tested my temps for a couple days. I then made a trip to a highly recommended exotic pet store in town just to do some window shopping (as I've been doing at least twice a week for the past month - all the employees got to recognize me). When I was there they had a new clutch they had just brought back from the Daytona Expo. One caught my eye. It was so curious and active (moving around and tongue flicking) that I asked to hold it. It did really well and it's curiousity continued - this while all the other BP's were busy striking the store employee. So I paid for the little cutie and told them I'd be back the next day for pick up. After a second night of testing my temps and feeling comfortable with everything I brought my BP home Saturday.

The store said the age is 2 months, but they don't probe snakes that young/small so I don't know the sex. I go to the vet Thursday for a checkup. Unfortunately, the vet I choose doesn't probe snakes but will recommend some people for me to go to. Needless to say my BP is nameless until I know the sex. I plan to name it Aragorn if it's a male and Arwen if it's a female (any Lord of the Ring fans out there?).

I love my BP! He/she is still active - especially when I come home. It loves to come out and climb all over me. I think it loves it's home. It likes to climb the plants and just hang out. It also likes to drape itself around the rim of the water bowl.

Everything seems to be going well. I'll feed this weekend - hope all goes well.

I just wanted to extend a great big THANK YOU to everyone here for all your help and advice.

Now lets see if I can get this image thing to work.....

Aww ADORABLE! Your setup looks somewhat like mine, but I like yours a thousand times better,so I think some modification of Monty's home is in order. MInd if I ask some questions? What size tank is that? Does the snake use the branches? I have a few plants in my tank too,and he's always climbing up them and hanging in them, thinks hes a darn ATB. Does the snake hide in that stump lookign thing? My snake seems to be too big for his half log,and right now hes using an ugly cave I had for a tarantula a few years ago that really needs to be replaced, and we have the stump things in my work,I think I will pick one up. Have you noticed the snake soak at all?Mine has only once in the three weeks I've had him. The blueish Hue on your snak, eyou knwo what i mean?right by the head? I thought that was related to an upcoming shed, but its been 3 weeks, and no shed. I soaked him in a water for a minute and its gone now, know what that is?Im curious. Oh well, sorry I'm a pest, Good luck with the new baby!

My tank is a 50 gallon (36x18x19). My snake uses everything! Loves to climb and hang from both the branches and plants. Loves to hang in the plants for long periods of time. I haven't seen it soak. I have seen it drink and just drape itself around the water bowl. It likes to climb on the branch over the water bowl and reach down for a sip. It goes in the stump and log and climbs all over them. A very active little fella. I'm glad I didn't listen to the people who said I didn't need plants or branches because BPs don't like to climb.

I love my BP!
