Hey- Sulcata and Indian Star Mixing Question

cod6545 Aug 27, 2003 07:03 PM

Ok... I have 1.1 adult Indian Stars. I would really like to get 1.1 sub adult to adult Sulcata. I have a very large and extensive outdoor enclosure in my back yard in Florida. The problem is- I have no way to divide up the enclosure the way I have it setup. If I have both species wormed and checked by a vet is it at all possible to have them live together? I know this is generally not recommended, but I really need this. Thanks a lot! Brooks Pipher

Brooks,

Its not a good idea because Sulcatas are quite aggressive compared to Stars. Many folks don't keep Leopards and Sulcatas together for this reason, even though they have similar environmental needs. It can stress the animals.

I would recommend not combining the species.

I agree, sulcatas are too agressive, mine goes nuts and tried to
kill even plastic turtles if they're new in the house! I'm sure
he could damage or kill a smaller tortoise.
Anyways, if you got two sulcatas and they were males, they'd
try to kill each other in a bad way! If you got a male/female
pair, he'd drive her crazy and possibly harm her if she was
constantly exposed to him and unable to really get away.
And trying to get two certain female adult sulcatas - yeah $$$$$]

I agree with Paul...I wouldn'tdo it;in fact, I wouldn't mix stars with anything other than stars
