Question for experienced breeders...

zach_whitman Feb 22, 2008 02:00 AM

So after a whole winter of courting and mating most of my female pygmies are obviously gravid. I just separated them from the males this week. However one female does not appear to be as swollen as the rest of them. I can palpate ovum but they don't feel the same as the other females. Hers feel much harder, rounder and more defined. Kind of like a string of pearls vs a string of mushy grapes.

Anyone have any ideas?

Dud male?

Just haven't given them enough time yet?

This is the males first time breeding but the female produced a perfect clutch last year.

Best of luck hatching out your pymies. I really want some soon, so I hope you hatch out a lot. Let me know when you have some available. I would just let things progress. Do you have records of post-ovulatory shed? Just keep an eye on her and how she progresses. It could be any number of things, but if you mess with her or worry too much, that could unfavorably affect the outcome. I am also waiting on 4 clutches of Anteresia eggs, 2 from Cape Yorks and 2 from Red childrens. Good luck,
Justin

Good luck with your stuff.

She is starting to bulk up a little more, I think her cycle may just be a few weeks behind the others.

Fingers crossed... I have one breathing heavy in the nest box now...
