Did anyone catch the Today show?

toshamc Feb 22, 2008 12:31 PM

Talk about two steps forward one step back.

They are filming the Today show down in Miami today. I just caught the tail end of the segment with the exotic animals but they had a guy bring on an 18 foot Burm - they plop it down on the table, get the girls to touch it, admire it all is going well - girl asks "what does it really eat?"

Snake experts answer: "Well, I have a horror story for you. These are loose in the everglades now and they'll eat anything - including alligators."

There was a picture in the papers here showing a Burmese that busted open mid-body with an alligator sticking out.

The burms that have been released into the Everglades are upsetting the ecosystem and there's a possibility that the naturally reproducing population could spread across the USA.

Several articles have appeared on this subject since the USGS published some maps showing the potential habitat for the invasive species.

Here's one article that's a bit over the top:

Now for the USGS article:

how to take care of the "python problem" in FLA? tell the locals they taste like chicken, we'll eat anything down here that tastes like chicken even if it really doesn't. i remember when i was a kid eating gator (before the ban was lifted) delicious, goes especially well with mango sauce.

in arizona had rattlesnake, pretty good too. And send captured pythons up to places where nutria have taken over kill those darn oversized rats. too many darn gators in FLA anyway.
