JoeEdmark Feb 22, 2008 02:13 PM

Would it be appropriate to house a Ball Python in a planted vivarium?

If you had very VERY sturdy plants, yes.

Ball pythons are kind of like slithering demolition teams, though. If you like your plants, a ball python might not be the best addition.

I would say climbing type plants along the back wall of the tank. hot glue some stuff (that wont hurt your ball) to the back to the tank for anchorage and put in some ivy or morning glory. you could also go with bamboo but be careful, when pruned bamboo can be very sharp and possibly hurt the snake. a couple of small containers buried in your substrate with the top maybe half an inch above the bedding should work. but i stick with plastic/silk myself. suction cups and hot glue along the back and one side . a lot of traffic goes by the left side of tank so its kind of keeps them from being spooked when someone walks by. take a look at the pictures that i recently posted to get the idea. BTW my snakes love crawling up and into the vines guess they like to pretend to be tree snakes from time to time.
