How often...

Ophidia_Junkie Feb 22, 2008 07:29 PM

...does a gravid female shed, just before or right at, parturition?

This girls due in 12 days, but she started hazing over today pretty obviously. Looking all loose in the skin too, and turning pinkish down low. Pretty obvious.

I'm surprised she can breath in that last one. She cops some weird positions sometimes.

So...it's not like I'm worried or anything. She knows what she's doing. But I don't know what she's doing. LOL I'm more used to the shed after parturition. Does this occur frequently?

Just curious.
Rick

That is such a cool picture of the eye scalation.
I think they are supposed to shed a week or a few days before the litter comes. Looks like she's right on schedule if I'm right.
Hopefully, the knowledgeable experienced will answer.

Thanks John. Maybe it's my other girl breaking the rules. LOL She always sheds a week or so after she births, or drops slugs. At least every year since '04 anyway. She's a month away right now.

youve bred her every year since 04?

LOL Nah. I wouldn't do that to her. But she cycled and slugged out in, '04 bred '05 and cycled and slugged last year and bred this year. She behaves the same whether she was bred or not. Sheds after parturition.

(shrug) I never change a thing either. She does what she wants. LOL I do hope I can trick her with light the next year into no cycle. We'll see. (I want her to eat a full year, and she won't for 4 months if she cycles.)

My Central American shed after parturition, too. The litter came as a surprise, as I was looking for a shed first.

Don't quote me but I think that I have read that they shed after giving birth but could very well be wrong about that since I have never bred themlol and since she is bigger than a heifer with an addiction to Blue Bell Mint Chocolate Chip, I think she mayb go a couple days early is my guess. Best of luck to you with the mom and babies

Usually my girls will shed right after ovulation, and not again until a week or so after babies are born. I have had some shed about half way through gestation, and once I had one shed two days before giving birth.

Nice boa, & good luck with the babies.
